SPIRITUAL TREATMENT

Spiritual treatment addresses the very real damage that can happen to our spirits when we undergo even mild levels of trauma and distress. Sometimes the damage is so severe that we can’t find our way to restoration on our own. Examples include experiencing the loss of a loved one, witnessing or being the victim of acts of violence, perpetrating acts of violence, being betrayed, betraying others, night terrors, existential crises, and so on.

In cases where we aren’t able to reach wellbeing again on our own, nature provides us with many forms of help. Spiritual healers put us in touch with the elements of nature and petition them for aid, guiding us through whatever healing process is appropriate for our situation. Spiritual treatment is not a replacement for medical or mental health care, but a means of caring for the spirit and soul.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE INNER SPIRIT AND THE SOUL?
In the context of spiritual healing, a good explanation comes from indigenous teachings which describe the soul as the inner self, while the spirit is like a protective sheath that surrounds it. When the spirit is damaged severely enough, the soul can actually leave the body, though we still carry on walking and talking. If we live in a soulless state for long enough, we will begin to experience negative consequences in our lives, which can easily manifest as physical diseases, mental health problems, insomnia, restlessness, clumsiness, a general sense of lacking wellbeing, and so on. Some may simply feel out of touch with themselves.

SPIRITUAL REVIVAL

In its fullest form, a revival is an initiatory rebirthing process in which the old self is left behind and a new self emerges. Revivals are also excellent ways to “check in with Spirit” on a routine basis. The motivations for embarking on a revival can range from seeking our purpose in life, healing energetic wounds, gaining power and clarity, strengthening our awareness of and connection to Nature and Spirit, finding spiritual allies and totems, and so on.

Regardless of the intention behind it, though, a revival is not to be taken lightly. The everyday version of yourself must be set aside, and a pure connection established to the source of your life. A deep state of listening must be entered into and maintained, and awareness must not wander. A revival takes a minimum of three days (meals and lodging are included), and requires education and preparation before being embarked on. A revival almost always takes place in nature, as we use the help of the elements around us to enhance the process.
